Glenn Maxwell has been reprimanded following an incident that occurred in the match against the Delhi Daredevils. Maxwell, who has had a particularly bad outing in the IPL for the past couple of years, failed yet again with the bat as the Kings XI Punjab scrambled to a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Delhi Daredevils.
According to a press release issued, ”In the VIVO IPL match in Delhi last evening, Glenn Maxwell of Kings XI Punjab was reprimanded by the Match Referee for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision. Maxwell admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction.”
The Kings XI had a watershed season in the 2014 edition of the IPL, where they subsequently reached the final, only to have the title snatched from their grasp by the Knight Riders. Glenn Maxwell proved to be a revelation in the season as he concluded the tournament as the highest run scorer for the Kings. However, the following season saw Maxwell enter a slump, something he has failed to come out of.
The previous season saw him score just 145 runs as the Kings XI Punjab finished last on the table. At the moment, it seems as though Maxwell is having an extended episode of ‘Failure to launch’. Evidence of the aforementioned statement can be found in the amount of time he spent in the crease. He was dismissed after facing just three deliveries and conceded 11 runs in the only over he bowled.
The punishment meted out to Maxwell is yet to be disclosed.
