Australia’s attacking opener Aaron Finch recently, made his way into the record book after becoming the joint-fastest to the fifty run mark. Finchy opened the inning as Australia prepared to chase Sri Lanka’s modest 213 runs target. The opener took no time to get going and raced to his half-century off just 18 balls, equaling the record with Simon O Donnell and his current teammate Glenn Maxwell.

The burly right-hander, unfortunately, could not bat for a longer duration and finished with a 19 ball 55 after getting dismissed by left-arm spinner Pathirana in the 6th over. As a result of his stellar batting, Australia got off to a bright start during their chase and eventually won the game by 6 wickets.

In a post-match interview, Finch revealed that he would have loved to beat Maxwell’s record. He was, at one point, close to doing that but narrowly missed out.

“I was disappointed not to beat Maxi, to be fair. That’s one thing I would have liked to have beaten Maxi.”

Here’s the video:

Maxwell took a sarcastic potshot at his teammate saying that it would not have been very hard to hit bowlers under restricted field settings.

“Can’t be that hard to do it in the first 10 overs when you’ve only got 2 outside the circle surely?? #poochy #vicsa,” tweeted Maxwell.

The Rangiri Dambulla Stadium saw yet another fabulous game of cricket. Apart from Finch, John Hastings took his career best figures of 6/45, Dhanajaya de Silva hit an entertaining 76, Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews battled a calf trouble during his 40 runs knock and Sachith Pathirana was unplayable for most part of his spell.
