Glenn McGrath impressed with Aswin Crist and K Vignesh’s performance

Former Australian pace bowler Glenn McGrath who is the chief of the MRF Pace Foundation in India expressed that he was happy to watch the performance of Tamil Nadu pace duo Aswin Crist and K. Vignesh in India’s premier first-class tournament Ranji Trophy this season. Both the bowlers had earlier trained under McGrath and their rise has a contribution from the legend as well.

He was pleased with the way the 22-year-old Aswin was running in and his ability to move the ball as well. McGrath feels he has shown glimpses of what he is capable of this season. “Crist is running through to the crease very well, is lively, and moves the ball. He has promise.” He was quoted by the Hindu.

Vignesh, on the other hand, has pace on his side as well along with the skill of making the ball move off the deck. He bowls the probing off-stump line and deflects the ball from a very difficult position for the batsmen. “Vignesh too bowls at a good pace and seams it from an off-stump line. Both have trained hard here at the foundation.”

Aswin the right-arm medium pacer has played 23 first-class matches in his career with 69 wickets featured in all the games for Tamil Nadu this season and picked up 33 wickets in 10 matches. He bowled a crucial first innings spell in the quater-final against Karnataka and his 6-wicket haul ensured the team had an early advantage in the game as they eventually went on to win the game.

22-year-old Vignesh made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu this season and found instant success bagging a five-wicket haul in the very first innings; he made the game a memorable one with another 4-wicket haul in the next knock. He registered his best match figures of 9/70 in that match against Mumbai. Vignesh played 9 matches this season and returned with 37 wickets which included two 5-wicket hauls and four 4-wicket hauls.
