The former cricketer noted that the quality of talent is pretty great among the age-group cricketers from Haryana.
Former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has been one of the most premier pacers of all-time, as he is also the highest wicket-taker with 563 Test match wickets to his name, among the quick bowlers. It is a great privilege and honour for the young generation fast bowlers to receive some learnings from the legendary cricketer. Fast bowlers need to work very hard to succeed in their second IPL season
The Indian Premier League (IPL) holds a great importance in the life of young cricketers in India these days, as they are desperate to prove their worth at the biggest stage and then represent the national team in the future. During a conversation, McGrath mentioned that he always hears from young fast bowlers about their love for the IPL. The former Aussie fast bowlers reckoned that to be successful in the next season, a bowler needs to work hard during the rest of the months.
“Whenever I meet any young fast bowler who has played IPL, I ask him a question, ‘Did you like playing IPL? They would say yes and I tell them that I love IPL too’ My next question is ‘Do you want to go back to IPL next year? If yes, then you have to work hard during the rest of the months’,” said McGrath to Sportstar.
The former cricketer noted that the quality of talent is pretty great among the age-group cricketers from Haryana. He stated that he will be helping out the fast bowlers in some of the areas and lending some valuable advice to the youngsters. The senior team bowlers Harshal Patel and Mohit Sharma were training and bowled a few deliveries, under the close look of the former Australian bowler.
“The quality of talent was pretty good. I saw all of them want to bowl fast. We are not here to change or tweak their action majorly. It’s just helping them out with some basic advice on their action,” he added.
The MRF chief coach M. Senthilnathan along with McGrath were quite satisfied with the training facilities provided for the players at the Chaudhry Bansi Lal Stadium. The Haryana Cricket Association have also provided the players with proper indoor facility and a gym area.
“We are really happy with the facilities and it’s a wonderful opportunity for MRF Pace Foundation to work with Haryana Cricket Association. They have done wonderful work with their indoor facility and the gymnasium,” said the chief coach.
