New Zealand teenager Glenn Phillips etched his name in English cricket history after he cracked six sixes in an over. The 19-year-old was playing for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against the Duke of Norfolk XI at Arundel.
Phillips went on to smash a double century, finishing at 201 not out off 123 balls. MCC immediately declared with a team total of 299 after he achieved the landmark. Phillips is with the MCC as part of their young cricketers programme.
The feat becomes more special due to the venue at which the match was played on. The vintage ground, which has been hosting cricket matches since 1895, sits alongside the historic Arundel Castle in West Sussex in the south of England.
The Duke of Norfolk XI, in reply, made 174/7 wickets at the end of Day’s play, forcing a draw.
Phillips was born in South Africa but was raised in New Zealand. He has previously represented New Zealand in the U-19 World Cup which was held in Bangladesh earlier this year. The promising cricketer has also played 5 limited overs matches for Auckland, in which he scored a century as well. He made his maiden first-class century against Otago in Ford Trophy 2015-16.

Not many batsmen had hit 6 sixes off six balls in international cricket. In fact, just two batsmen have done it before – Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa) did it against the Netherlands and Yuvraj Singh (India) achieved the unique feat against England in the T20 World Cup 2007.
In first-class cricket, West Indian great Garfield Sobers did it in County cricket and India’s Ravi Shastri did the same in Indian’s first-class tournament Ranji trophy.
