Australia’s best batsman Steve Smith has made an indelible mark of his own in the cricketing globe with brilliant knocks across formats. He is one of the very few batsmen in the world who is consistent in scoring runs. When he comes out to bat, he will always be at the cynosure of everyone’s eyes and has often been the opposition’s nightmare. Besides scoring runs, the world-class batsman has often left everyone in awe of his batting technique.

In the third and final Test match between Australia and New Zealand at Sydney Cricket Ground, Glenn Phillips imitated Steve Smith in terms of batting stance and footwork too. It is cognisance of the fact that Steve Smith is known for his unique batting stance and awkward footwork. New Zealand debutant Phillips reminded all of us on Steve Smith’s batting stance.

Cricket Australia posted a video clip that showed similarities between them both the cricketers. The right-handed batsman Glenn Phillips’ batting stance before facing the delivery was quite similar to that of Smith’s stance. “Do we have another Steve Smith clone? ????,” Cricket.com.au posted on their official Twitter handle.

Glenn Phillips does a Steve Smith in SCG Test match

Earlier, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne started to leave deliveries like his teammate Steve Smith in Tests. New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips was the latest one to imitate Steve Smith. Phillips made his debut in the ongoing third Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground. He made his presence count on the pitch against Australia as he became the top scorer for his team in the first innings and scored 52 runs.

He was gifted two lives as he was dropped twice in the innings, and once survived in the match due to a no-ball. However, the debutant was later dismissed by Pat Cummins off a beautiful delivery on Day 3. Cummins took his revenge after Phillips sent the ball into the stands earlier in the day.

“Oh! Bowled em. Cummins gets the last laugh as he so often does. This is one cracking delivery. An absolute beauty to a guy who has played him superbly. It’s a dream delivery to end a dreamish start for Glenn Philips. Just have a look at this move back of the seam and hits the top of off. A perfect off-cutter from Pat Cummins,” said the commentators on air.
