It was almost a one-sided affair as the Winnipeg Hawks dominated the Montreal Tigers in all departments of the game. The Hawks won this game by 46 runs to claim the top spot on the points table. Going into this game, all eyes were on Australia’s David Warner, who was playing professional cricket after some time.
Montreal Tigers vs Winnipeg Hawks – Match 2, Round 1
Warner disappoints but the Hawks post a mammoth total on the board
After winning the toss, Malinga opted to bat first. Further, the Tigers found some great success early in the innings. David Warner, who was carrying a lot of expectations and immense pressure on his shoulder was dismissed right in the second over of the game for just 1 run. The former Aussie vice-captain was bowled off an absolute peach of a delivery from Malinga. However, Lendl Simmons and Ben McDermott build a nice partnership of 69 runs after this early jolt. Simmons scored 36 off 24 deliveries before he was dismissed by George Worker.
McDermott carried on his good work and was dismissed after scoring 68 off 46 deliveries. Windies batsman Darren Bravo too played a wonderful inning of 54 which came of just 29 deliveries. But, the best striking in the game came from the willow of David Miller. ‘Killer Miller’ was absolutely brutal and scored 35 off just 15 balls which included 3 massive ones. Skipper Malinga was the best bowler for the Tigers picking up 2 wickets in his 4 overs and he gave away just 19 runs.
Brilliant spells from DJ Bravo and Junaid Siddiqui make the game a one-sided affair
The Montreal Tigers never seemed to be in the chase. Dwayne Smith, who is a dangerous T20 batsman was dismissed on the second ball of the innings by Ali Khan as Warner took a very good catch. There were two brief partnerships after this wicket but weren’t substantial enough to take the Montreal Tigers any close.
None of the Montreal batsmen managed to cross 30 runs. They were 98/2 at the end of 11.1 overs. But in the next 15 balls, they lost 4 wickets which completely upset the momentum of their chase. Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets in 4 overs. He only gave away 24 runs. Another Canadian player, Junaid Siddiqui was equally impressive with 3 wickets. He conceded 35 runs in his spell as Winnipeg Hawks won the game by 46 runs.
