The banned Australian cricketers David Warner and Steve Smith are all set to mark their return to the game in the upcoming Global T20 Canada. Their involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal led them to not playing international and domestic cricket for the next 12 months. Also, they were not allowed to play in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) where their franchises had retained them. However, the big question is whether they will be able to recover their losses by playing in the T20 League in Canada.
The left-handed opening batsman was the skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and was set to receive a whopping amount of Rs 12 Crores. Also, Smith was the only player retained by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and had agreed to pay him the similar amount for the eleventh edition of the IPL. But all went wrong for the Australian duo during South Africa tour and have not played any cricket since then.
How much will they earn?
Steve Smith was one of the 10 marquee players during the players’ draft event of Global T20 Canada which held last week. His services were bagged by Toronto Nationals franchise which also includes the players like Darren Sammy and Kieron Pollard among notable cricketers from Pakistan. Being the marquee player, Smith will receive USD 100,000 (approximately Rs 6.7 Million) according to ESPN Cricinfo which is a decent yet very less amount compared to his league fee in the IPL.
Interestingly Warner will earn even less as he was not on marquee players list as well. He will earn in the range of USD 3,000 to 90,000 (approximately Rs 0.2 Million to 6 Million) while playing for Winnipeg Hawks. The specific amount that will be paid to the Australian cricketer is not yet clear and the contracts will be for one year. The tournament is all set to commence on June 28 and will end on July 15.
