The Global T20 League, the latest addition to the lucrative and electrifying Twenty20 tournaments all over the world, is set to get underway from the month of November later this year. With the Bangladesh Premier League also scheduled to begin at that time, South Africa Cricket’s Global T20 League is being considered as a serious threat to the BPL.

The BPL franchises are concerned about the fact that the craze surrounding the Bangladesh Premier League can go down significantly due to the similar timings of both the tournaments.

A plethora of foreign cricketers will be taking part in the inaugural season of the Global T20 League, just as the other cash-rich leagues like the IPL, BPL, PSL and CPL. The participation of several foreign talents in the Global T20 League will not allow them to feature in the Bangladesh Premier League.

What Ishtiaq Sadek had to say:

The franchises believe that the clash of timings will result in a decrease in the attraction level of the 5th edition of the BPL, and they are preparing for the same. Rangpur Riders Chief executive, Ishtiaq Sadek pointed out the fact that they missed out on a few more top notch players because of the Global T20 League.

“BPL and Global T20 league will kick-off at the same time. So, there is the possibility of reducing BPL’s attraction.” he said.

If BPL or Global T-20 league might commence in different timing then we could sign more top-level foreign cricketers.” added Ishtiaq Sadek.

Rangpur Riders have already roped in the destructive Chris Gayle into their ranks but his participation still remains doubtful. The reason is the Global T20 League. Popularly known as the ‘Universe Boss’, Gayle is expected to be a part of 2-4 matches if the Rangpur Riders make the qualifier round.

The defending champions of the BPL are the Dhaka Dynamites who won the 4th edition of the tournament defeating the Rajshahi Kings.
