Gloucestershire appoint Jack Taylor as the vice-captain for the upcoming season
He amassed more than 1000 runs across formats in 2017 which led him to being named as the County's best batsman of the year.
Gloucestershire has appointed Jack Taylor as the vice-captain for the upcoming County Championship and One-Day Cup this year. They have already announced Chris Dent as their new skipper for the season and are expecting to touch new highs in both the formats. However, they are yet to decide on the player who will lead the team in the shortest format of the game in T20 Blast.
Gloucestershire had a decent season last year in whites as they won 3 matches out of 14 but went on to draw 7 matches. They didn’t have a great limited overs tournament though and finished at seventh place in the South group. They endured an even better T20 tournament as they were placed last in the table with only 4 wins after 14 matches. This time around, they would be eyeing to fare better and have appointed two of their best players of the last season at the helm.
Coach welcomes the decision
Jack Taylor has been rewarded with the vice-captaincy for his sensational form with both bat and ball last season. He amassed more than 1000 runs across formats in 2017 which led him to being named as the County’s best batsman of the year. He also displayed his skills with the ball scalping 19 wickets with his wily off-spin bowling. The coach of the team Richard Dawson was excited to have him as the deputy of Dent and welcomed the decision. “Jack has shown the qualities of a leader over the past few seasons,” he said according to bbc.com.
Taylor made his first-class debut at a very early age of 19 and has been playing for Gloucestershire ever since then. The 26-year-old averages 32 with the bat in first-class cricket after 57 matches with 6 centuries to his name and has also picked 75 wickets with the ball in hand. He has contributed equally well in the other formats as well and would be looking to continue in the same vein of form this season as well.
