Going back home after 7 weeks Faf du Plessis is proud of what they achieved
Faf was called in for a few games and the Proteas skipper gave his best to bail the franchise out of deep trouble.
MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings had their own strategies and plans to pick the squad ahead of their opening encounter against the defending champions Mumbai Indians. Almost every time when the team was in need one player or the other stood up and guided them to success. While it was Dwayne Bravo in the game against the Mumbai Indians, Ambati Rayudu, Dhoni and even Faf du Plessis put their hand up and delivered.
Shane Watson after playing a match-winning knock against Rajasthan Royals had to sit out of a few games due to injury concerns but he was back when it mattered the most and was at his very best with the bat in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad. English man Sam Billings played a blinder of an innings against the Knight Riders while Faf waited until the big-match against Sunrisers in the qualifier to pull off a heist.
The Protea who always stood by Dhoni, both as a part of the CSK team or as a part of the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant played his role everytime an opportunity knocked at him. His innings in the playoffs takes the cake and this is one such inning that he is will cherish for the rest of his life as a Super King.
After the IPL 2018 auction, quite a few heads turned and a lot of tongues were wagging and mocked the team management’s strategy as 9 players aged over 30 in the team. But this is where they went wrong as the experience of the players came handy in every single win for CSK.
From the start of his career in the IPL, Faf has played for the yellow jersey, despite the fact that the South African right-handed batsman has not been picked regularly in the playing XI by skipper Dhoni. They used the RTM (Right-to-Match) card to pick him back with the Super Kings by matching the offer the Kings XI Punjab were willing to pay.
Faf du Plessis’ tweet following their title win:
Dhoni sparingly used the right-handed opener in the playing eleven and when called upon like in the qualifier game against Sunrisers Hyderabad he came to the fore to score a match-winning inning of 67 runs from just 42 deliveries and took the team over the line.
The South African tweeted: “Excited to be going home after 7 weeks at the IPL… Was really good being back at @ChennaiIPL this year. What a franchise it has been over the years. Proud to be part of another trophy with CSK 🏆”
