‘Going to give everything to repeat history’ – Rohit Sharma vows to take India to glory in T20 World Cup 2021 while recalling 2007 triumph

September 24 will go down one of the most significant dates in Indian cricket as on this day in 2007, India became the inaugural T20 World Cup champions. Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, a young and inexperienced Indian side defied all the odds and lifted the prestigious trophy in South Africa. As India’s triumph completed 14 years recently, many fans and players recalled the history day.

On Wednesday (September 29), veteran opener Rohit Sharma also did the same with a post on Instagram. Sharing a picture of the Indian team lifting the trophy, the Hitman posted a heartfelt note. He recalled how an inexperienced bunch of players stunned the world and ended up creating history. Rohit also mentioned that the Men in Blue will leave no stones unturned to replicate their brilliance in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2021.

“Sep 24th, 2007, Johannesburg. The day when a billion dreams came true. Who would have thought back then that a relatively inexperienced, young team like ours would end up creating history!! It’s been 14 years since, we’ve come a long way, we’ve created many more histories, we’ve had our setbacks, we struggled, but it didn’t break our spirits,” wrote Rohit.

“Because we never give up. We give it all!!! This @icc #T20WorldCup each one of us is going to give everything to repeat history. We’re coming for it, the trophy is ours. India, let’s make it happen. I am #InItToWinIt,” he added.

Rohit, who made his T20 debut during the 2007 global event, was the unsung hero of India’s terrific campaign. The then youngster played some brilliant cameos lower down the order and helped India. He even scored an unbeaten 16-ball 30 in the high-voltage final against India, taking India to a total that proved to be match-winning.

14 years have gone by since that tournament and Rohit has come a long way. Interestingly, he’s the only member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup squad to feature in the upcoming event. Hence, there are some substantial responsibilities on his shoulders and it would be interesting to see how he performs.
