We are a good ODI team: Luke Ronchi
The New Zealanders conceded the Test series 3-0 and were the least competent against the Indians but things won’t be as meek in the One-Day International series. New Zealand is a far better ODI side and on belters that are usually rolled out in India the big hitters in their lineup will also enjoy batting and the Indian bowlers will have to be wary of that fact.
Luke Ronchi was one player who impressed in the Test series despite the team not being able to lift themselves enough to beat India. Ahead of the start of the ODI series during a media interaction Ronchi said, “It’s completely different ball game now, completely different cricket, a cricket which we have been playing really well for a while now. Tests are gone now. We can’t do anything about it. Now we are just looking forward to the fives ODIs,”
They were the runners-up in World Cup 2015 and were just beaten by eventual champions Australia in the entire tournament. Under Kane Williamson, this unit is a positive one and has a lot of energy which might prove enough on any given day to outplay the Indian team. He added, “We are a good ODI team and if we can continue playing the way we have been playing for a while now, it’s going to make for an interesting series.”
“Our ODI cricket has been good for a quite a while now. We did not play that well in this Test series but in the past, we have done a great job in Tests as well. After losing 0-3 we are going to look at this ODI series and make sure we perform well and finish off the tour on a high. We will be positive going into each game and back our processes and skills,” Ronchi was quoted as saying in The Hindu.
