Gqeberha, Paarl and Cape Town to play hosts to Women's T20 World Cup 2023

Host cities for the inaugural International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s U19 T20 World Cup and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 have been announced. The first U19 event will take place in January next year and the T20 World Cup will begin on February 10 with the final match to be played on February 26.
The senior Women’s T20 encounters will take place in cities including Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Paarl, and Cape Town, while the first edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will take place in Benoni and Potchefstroom.
A total of ten teams will participate in the upcoming 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup
As many as ten nations will play in the senior women’s event of which eight including South Africa, Australia, India, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and West Indies have already been confirmed. The remaining two teams will come from the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers.
“We’re thrilled to announce the three cities to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup,” Tournament Director, Russell Adams was quoted as saying.
“The Eastern and Western Cape are prime cricket and tourist locations with great facilities and infrastructure. We have no doubt that these venues will step up to make this a memorable and uniquely African celebration of cricket for the local and international fans attending the event,” he added.
Australia, who are the defending champions of the T20 format, will want to extend their dominance in the international arena. Meanwhile, South Africa will also back themselves to win the prized trophy in their backyard.
ICC Head of Events Chris Tetly also expressed his happiness at the announcement as he said, “We are delighted to announce the host cities for both women’s events taking place in South Africa in early 2023. It is a very exciting time for women’s cricket with the first U19 T20 World Cup showcasing the future stars of our sport and the next edition of the ultimate prize in the T20 format.”
