I am the greatest cricketer of all time says Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle’s 69 ball 146 was a record-breaking century. He hit 18 sixes which is the most by a batter in T20s.
Chris Gayle is one of the best performers of the game. He has entertained almost a generation with his batting and has been phenomenal over the years for the teams he has represented. Gayle, however, is a package that comes with controversies. He has a huge fan following but he also has his share of criticism.
Gayle was outstanding in the Bangladesh Premier League. He smashed a century and won the title for Rangpur Riders. He enjoyed batting against Dhaka Dynamites as he smashed a 69-ball 146 not out. Gayle also enjoyed a double century partnership with his partner in crime Brendan McCullum.
The West Indian, however, again made a controversial statement. After the victory, he was asked if he is the Bradman of T20 cricket to which he answered that he is the greatest cricketer of all time. “I’m the greatest batsman of all time,” Gayle said during the post-match interaction.
Record-breaking century
His 146* was a record-breaking century. He hit 18 sixes which is the most by a batter in T20s. He also went past 11000 runs in T20s with that knock and it was his 5th BPL century. This hundred surely is one of his best innings as well given he unleashed himself in the most important game of the tournament. When asked about the same Chris said that this ranks in his top five knocks.
He said, “I would put it in the top five, certainly for the occasion as well. I will have to reflect where this takes place. It is right up there.” His partnership with McCullum was a fantastic one as well. Both of them were outstanding in that 201-run stand. Gayle was ecstatic with his contribution and also to the partnership.
“It was important for one of us to bat right through the innings. It actually set the momentum for us,” the Jamaican stated. However, his comments have somehow managed to overshadow his brilliant innings. This is not new as Gayle has always managed to grab the headlines for the wrong reasons.
