New South Wales speedster Gurinder Sandhu has been reprimanded after showing dissent at an umpire’s verdict during a JLT One Day Cup game on September 29. The quick bowler was run-out for a duck against Western Australia as NSW went down to 233/7 chasing 270 to win. The visitors lost the match by nine runs and the pacer was charged with  a Level 1  offense for showing dissent after a run out decision.

Match referee David Talalla considered the umpires’ report and the proposed sanction was a reprimand as per Cricket Australia’s Code of Conduct. The pacer accepted the sanction and therefore no hearing took place. Sandhu bowled well in the game, as he finished with figures of 4/57, including three scalps in Warriors’ final over of their innings. Sandhu has played two matches for Australia so far.

History in the offer

The coming Sunday will mark an historic occasion when NSW will lock horns with Cricket Australia XI in the JLT One-Day Cup, with umpire Claire Polosak set to make her List A debut. Polosak will become the first ever female on-field umpire in Australian men’s domestic cricket.

“If you were to ask my 16-year-old self if I thought this would have happened when I first started umpiring, I definitely would not have thought I would be umpiring a men’s domestic match,” Polosak said in a release on Wednesday.

“To be entrusted with this opportunity is humbling. With my role at Cricket New South Wales working in female umpire engagement, I realise what I do can be incredibly important for other women.” she added

“We need to see more female umpires officiating at all levels of the game, as this allows others to see there is a path to follow. Hopefully other female umpires will realise that umpiring cricket at the elite level is a real possibility and that they can be involved.” she said.
