A day after former India batsman Virender Sehwag trolled Gurmehar Kaur on twitter following his placard act which stated ‘Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him”, the daughter of the Kargil martyr said that he was shattered into pieces after seeing such a tweet from one of his favourite cricketers. “It broke my heart to see Sehwag’s tweet. I looked up to him while I was growing up,” Gurmehar was quoted as saying by NDTV.

“I am from Punjab and went to the Mohali stadium where I yelled his name. Hence it is very disappointing to see such a tweet from him, to be honest,” she added. She was very upset to see that twitter being used as a platform to spread hatred. “I hope they use that place (Twitter) for something other than spreading hate,” she said.

Again speaking to ANI regarding Sehwag’s tweet she said, “I am heartbroken, these are the ppl you yell for in matches & they troll you at the expense of your father’s death.” Sehwag had replied to Gurmehar’s placard act by posting a picture of himself with a placard which read, “I did not score two triple hundreds, my bat did.”

Gumrehar has given a facebook post which has gone viral. In that note, she wrote, “The brutal attack on innocent students by ABVP is very disturbing and should be stopped. It was not an attack on protestors, but an attack on every notion of democracy that is held dear in ever Indian’s heart. It is an attack on ideals, morals, freedom and rights of every person born to this nation. The stones that you pelt hit our bodies, but fail to bruise our ideas.

“This profile picture is my way of protesting against the tyranny of fear. If you are a student in any Indian university, in any Indian state and you wish to protest against ABVP then take a similar selfie and make it your profile picture. Use the hashtag #StudentsAgainstABVP and copy paste this message along with it. It’s time for every student of India to unite! Jai Hind! Jai Democracy!#StudentsAgainstABVP,” she added.
