Had to leave social media, people abused my kids as well: Aakash Chopra after he excluded MS Dhoni from his T20 World Cup squad
38-year-old Dhoni was set to return to the field by leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the thirteenth edition of the IPL.
MS Dhoni’s fan-following across the country is second to none. Due to his on-field presence and match-winning knocks, the former Indian skipper has managed to etch his name in the heart of every cricket fanatic. The wicketkeeper-batsman has not braced the field since India’s exit from the semi-final of 2019 World Cup.
Despite being away from the game, MS Dhoni’s craze and fan-following fail to diminish. 38-year-old Dhoni was set to return to the field by leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the thirteenth edition of the IPL. However, Dhoni’s return was halted by the indefinite postponement of the tournament.
Die-hard Dhoni fans are still waiting for his comeback as they still believe that he can bounce back on the international scene. Recently, cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra also had to face the wrath of Dhoni’s fans. Chopra didn’t include the wicketkeeper-batsman in his T20 World Cup 2020 squad. He took a bold step and slotted Rishabh Pant in the side instead of Dhoni.
Chopra decision didn’t go down with ardent fans of Dhoni as he was bashed mercilessly by those fans. Chopra, in a recent interaction with Ajit Agarkar, revealed that fans of MS Dhoni abused him so much that he had to close social media for a few days. Fans didn’t hold back in abusing Chopra’s kids as well.
Ajit Agarkar also opined on MS Dhoni’s future with Indian team
“I had to close social media for a few days. People abused me so much, it kept on coming, they abused the kids as well. I said please pardon me guys, what happened has happened,” revealed Chopra.
During the interaction, Chopra asked Agarkar about his views on Dhoni’s future with the Indian side. Agarkar responded by saying that there was no point talking about it as Dhoni hasn’t played any form of cricket for almost a year now.
“I don’t know actually. Retiring or not retiring is MS Dhoni’s call. To select or to not select is selectors’ call if he fits in their plan. I don’t know, for the player who hasn’t played for a year, for me it will be difficult. Don’t know about the communication between MS Dhoni and team management or with the selectors,” said Agarkar.
“We don’t know about that. It will be difficult talking about an individual player but I will like to see the player playing cricket. If someone is not playing cricket then there is no point giving opinion on them or discussing about. I know people discuss about Dhoni because he has not retired and he has not playing also.”
“It’s obvious because of his achievements and fan following in India. Fans want him to play again but there is no point of discussion till the time he doesn’t play cricket,” added the former India pacer.
