Halsall positive about Mustafizur Rahman's returns after a long-layoff
In the opening encounter against the African nation, the left-arm seamer picked up two wickets in his full quota of ten overs, with a maiden.
Bangladesh’s interim coach Richard Halsall confirmed that their key pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s road to recovery is going on well as the pacer has increased a few yards to his bowling. Mustafizur’s international career has been nothing short of a dream. His launch in International cricket was a grand one as he picked fifers in two games against India and soon became a sensation.
Further, he went on to shine in his first season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Sunrisers Hyderabad before poor form plagued his international career. Just when it seemed like he was regaining the momentum, an injury saw him spend most of the time away from the field rehabilitating.
Halsall positive about Mustafizur’s recovery
Halsall, however, confirmed that the left-arm seamer is making solid progress towards his comeback to the national team after a long layoff. He, further revealed how much time it would take for the seamer to make his comeback.
“If you look at elite Baseball games, many pitchers (baseball player) suffer from this injury. A pitcher has to throw in around 90 miles per hour. Whenever they fall from this sort of injuries, they need at least two years to get back in form,” Halsall said.
“Mustafizur is running through the eighteen months after his injury. Now he is delivering cutters and bowling in 85 miles per hour. His pace is increasing every week which will make his cutter more effective. He is regaining his confidence,” he further stated.
Mustafizur played a part in the first match of the on-going tri-series between Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh where they faced the Zimbabweans. In the opening encounter against the African nation, the left-arm seamer picked up two wickets in his full quota of ten overs, with a maiden.
Bangladesh would now face Sri Lanka in the next game of the series on 19 January.
