The Indian women’s cricket team continued with its mega form in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia by clinching its fourth successive win at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on Sunday. The Women in Blue this time trounced a hapless Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to end up with an all-win record in the tournament so far. The three-time semi-finalists are the first team in the competition to qualify for the semi-final and they will play an undecided opponent in Sydney on March 5.

India, who started their campaign at the showpiece event with a 17-run win over hosts and defending champions Australia, found the Lankans an easy opponent and restricted them to 113 for 9 in 20 overs. Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav took 4 for 23 to derail the Lankan innings. India had no problem whatsoever in chasing down the target in less than 15 overs with seven wickets in hand. In-form batswoman Shafali Verma made yet another good score (47 off 34) to seal the deal for the Indians.

Former India captain Virender Sehwag lauded the women’s win in a tweet saying: “Hamari ladkiyon mein bahut Dum hain” (our girls have it in them). He praised the performances of both Radha and Shafali in the game and wished India ahead of their big semi-final clash. Radha was adjudged the player of the match. Shafali has been the woman of the match on two occasions (against Bangladesh and New Zealand in this World Cup).

Australia, New Zealand fight for second place

While India have already topped Group A with eight points from four games, Australia and New Zealand are fighting it out for the second place. Both are at four points from two matches though the hosts are ahead because of a better net run-rate. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are out of the contention with no win and three losses.

The other group has South Africa and England leading with two wins each while the West Indies and Pakistan have one victory each. Debutants Thailand have lost all their three matches.
