Hampshire announces the signings of Colin Munro and Mujeeb Ur Rahman for T20 Blast
The 17-year old will feature in the England county championships.
New Zealand opener Colin Munro will be representing Hampshire in the upcoming season of the T20 Blast throughout the month of July. Following the Kiwi explosive opener’s departure, veteran South African fast bowler Dale Steyn will be drafted as a replacement. Hampshire has also signed the teen Afghanistan sensation Mujeeb Ur Rahman for the Twenty20 tournament and the young mystery spinner will be with the English county club for the whole competition.
Munro has been in top form for his national team in the recent T20 international matches and is the only batsman to score three hundred in T20I cricket. While, Mujeeb, who is just 17-years old has already played T20Is for his national team and is currently playing for the Kings XI Punjab in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In his debut IPL season, the Afghan spinner has scalped 14 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 20.64.
Mujeeb has been the find of the IPL 2018
The Hampshire director of cricket, Giles White mentioned that the Afghanistan spinner has sparkled into the limelight with his sensational performances in the past six months. He praised Mujeeb for guarding the role of a lead spinner in IPL 2018. Giles also reckoned that the batters will face sure difficulties to play him as he is a mystery bowler with a lot of variations in his kitty.
“Mujeeb has sort of burst onto the scene over the last six months. He’s been one of the finds of the IPL, so he comes in great form. I think he’s one of the leading bowlers in the IPL and he brings something completely different. Not a lot of guys will have faced him,” said Giles as quoted by BBC.
Colin has been brilliant for New Zealand
The Hampshire director also showered praises on Munro who has been successful for the Kiwis with his recent performances in the white-ball format. He noted that the Kiwi batsman is only available for the first half of the tournament.
“Colin has been very successful for New Zealand over the past couple of years, so they’re very exciting signings. Colin will play the first half of the Blast with us so he’ll be here in July, and then the idea at this stage is that Dale Steyn joins us for the second stage and the rest of the season,” further added the Hampshire director of cricket.
