The Indian national team has made quite a few alterations to their squad for the final two Test matches against England at The Rose Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively. Hanuma Vihari, the 42-year-old batsman, who has been phenomenal in the recent times, got his maiden international call-up. Recently, he scored a superlative double-century against South Africa ‘A’, playing for India ‘A’.
Vihari has an impressive record in the first-class circuit with 5142 runs from 63 matches for Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh at an average of 59.79. Moreover, he has 15 centuries and 24 fifties to his name. Following his selection to don the national colours, he sounded delighted. He also expressed his gratitude towards his mother Vijayalakshmi for the sacrifices she has made for him.

Moreover, he thanked his uncle and coaches for his success. “I know how much Amma has sacrificed for me. Of course, my uncle also played a huge role. My training at the St John’s camp played a huge influence on my career. John (Manoj) sir and other coaches gave me a lot of support when I started playing the game,” Vihari was quoted as saying in Telangana Today.
Vihari was a part of India ‘A’s squad in their campaign of England. He expertly plied his trade with the willow and scored 291 runs in four List A matches at an average of 72.75 and with a top score of 147. The Andhra Pradesh-born cricketer mentioned the experience under trying conditions to have worked wonders for him and showed his eagerness to play under Virat Kohli.
“The India ‘A’ tour to England was a great experience for me. The ball will seam and swing around. I have to play a waiting game. To be selected and play in this wonderful team and play under Kohli is a great feeling. Now that I have made it to the Indian team, I have to be there for a long time. It is a huge challenge,’’ he added.
