Virat and Dhoni shining across formats
MS Dhoni got to lead the national team for the maiden time in the 2007 edition of the T20 World Cup in South Africa. Right away he tasted success as the Men in Blue became the champions. There wasn’t any looking back for MSD from there on and he kept growing in stature. Currently, the Jharkhand-born is the only skipper to have won ever other ICC-organised tournaments.
In July 2020, Dhoni will turn 38, but is yet to announce his retirement. He was last seen in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup where Martin Guptill ran him out with a direct hit. Virat, on the other hand, hasn’t done a bad job either. At the fag end of 2014, he took over the Test leadership mantle after Dhoni hung his boots from the longest format following the Melbourne Test.
In 2017, Virat also became the ODI and T20I skipper from India’s home series against England. Kohli is presently one of India’s most successful skippers. Moreover, the responsibility has also rubbed off positive in his batting. He has racked up runs at will and has shown his class time and again.
