Hyderabad has produced really technical sound batsmen over the years. First was Mohammad Azharuddin, then came VVS Laxman. The modern age saw talents like Ambati Rayudu and more recently– Hanuma Vihari– make their appearances for India. Due to the lockdown, Hanuma Vihari has been also staying at home.
Meanwhile, during a recent Instagram live session, Indian batsman Hanuma Vihari was asked who was his favourite among the fab four of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. Without any hesitation, the Hyderabad batsman made his choice.
‘Sachin sir was always my favourite’: Hanuma Vihari
Hanuma Vihari said among the fab four, Sachin Tendulkar would be his favourite. He revealed Sachin was his role model while growing up like many other youngsters. He said that he feels every one among the fab four were unique in their ability. However, he said that still, Sachin would be his favourite.
“Sachin Tendulkar will always be my favourite (among the Fab 4). He was my role model while growing up like many other youngsters. But all four had great qualities and were unique in their own ability. So, it was great watching them together in that era. But Sachin sir was always my favourite,” Vihari said during an Instagram live session with Sportskeeda.
Hanuma Vihari made his Test debut in 2018 on India’s tour of England. He scored a fifty on his debut and since then he had solidified his position in the Test team. The right-handed batsman has scored 552 runs from nine Test matches at an average of 36.8. He has scored one century and four half-centuries in his career so far.
The batsman also bowls part-time off-spin and has taken five wickets in Tests so far. His maiden Test wicket was of Alastair Cook, who was batting in his last Test innings. Vihari also shared his experience of that during the live.
“It was surreal, Cook’s last test innings. To get him out in his last Test innings was special because it will be remembered in the history of the game,” expressed Vihari.
