Hanuma Vihari reveals the most fearsome bowler he has faced
Vihari is currently in Australia, playing the four-match Test series.
Hanuma Vihari, the talented batsman from Andhra, has had a joyful year thus far. He was drafted into the Test squad during India’s tour of England on the backs of some incredible performances in the domestic circuit. The 25-year-old played the final encounter at Kennington Oval in London and went on to impress with a half-century. He also found a place in the 18-man squad for the tour of Australia.
The right-hander didn’t play the first match at the popular Adelaide Oval and Mumbai batsman Rohit Sharma was preferred ahead of him. However, luck smiled on Vihari and he broke into the playing eleven for the second Test at the new Perth Stadium. Albeit he couldn’t convert a couple of starts with the bat, he picked up the crucial wickets of opener Marcus Harris and left-hander Shaun Marsh.
Vihari’s fond memories
As far as playing alongside the big boys of world cricket is concerned, he has got the privilege way back in 2013 when he made debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Recently, Vihari mentioned that South African pacer Dale Steyn is the most fearsome bowler has ever faced. He said it in an interview with Hyderabad Local. Steyn was a part of the SRH squad in 2013.
In that same season, Vihari also got the prized wicket of Chris Gayle, the hulk-like batsman from West Indies. Hanuma has thus far played 22 matches in the IPL and has churned out 280 runs at an average of 15.56. After playing his final IPL match in 2015, he would now be making a comeback in the upcoming season, representing Delhi Capitals (DCS) who picked him for INR 2 crore from a base price of 50 lakhs.
In the meantime, Steyn won’t be a part of next IPL as he found no buyers in the auction. Nevertheless, that doesn’t undermine the fact that he’s one of the deadliest fast bowlers the Proteas have ever produced. In 88 Tests, 121 ODIs and 42 T20Is, the veteran has racked up 421, 192 and 58 wickets respectively. He is also expected to play a pivotal role in next year’s World Cup in England and Wales.
