Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by MS Dhoni, locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad at Dubai in the 14th encounter of the on-going IPL 2020. After suffering two defeats in their last two games, the Chennai side, currently sitting at the bottom of the points table, decided to go with a robust combination of 8 batsmen and 7 bowlers against David Warner-led SRH.
Meanwhile, Dhoni has added another feather in his illustrious cap. The CSK skipper is now the most-capped player in the IPL with 194 caps. He was tied at the top spot with his compatriot Suresh Raina but after bracing the field for the toss, the former India skipper etched another record to his name.
Dhoni has been associated with the Chennai franchise since the tournament’s inception. He was made CSK’s marquee player for the inaugural edition and it eventually turned out to be a special association. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK has been the most consistent IPL side. They’ve so far played eight finals and have clinched the title thrice.
I’m sure CSK will win this season’s IPL: Suresh Raina
‘Thala’ Dhoni has captained the Yellow Army in their every IPL game. He had shifted his base to the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017 when CSK were banned. But after the two-year ban, Dhoni returned to the franchise and led them to their third IPL title in 2018. Dhoni is second in the list of most IPL trophies, only one behind Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma.
Talking about most IPL caps, Dhoni now leads the table with 194 matches, followed by Raina at 193. The third name in the list is Rohit Sharma, who has played 192 matches in the tournament. Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper Dinesh Karthik is fourth in the list with 185 IPL appearances.
Twitter was flooded with wishes for Dhoni after he became the most-capped IPL player. Even Raina extended wishes to ‘Mahi bhai’ and wished him luck for the game against SRH. “Congratulations Mahi bhai for becoming the most capped IPL player. Happiest that my record is being broken by you. All the best for the game today and am sure @ChennaiIPL will win this season’s @IPL,” wrote Raina on Twitter.
