Virender Sehwag, during his playing days, was known for his fearless batting. He pummelled the likes of Shoaib Akhtar, Dale Steyn and Brett Lee among many other pace bowlers in his career. However, Sehwag is happy that he is retired now and not facing England and Rajasthan Royals’ pace sensation Jofra Archer who is bowling exceptionally well in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Archer was on fire in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) nipping out David Warner and Jonny Bairstow in consecutive overs while defending 154 runs for the Royals. Unfortunately, he didn’t get any support from the other end and RR lost the game by eight wickets. Overall, the pacer has been no less than prolific for his franchise picking 15 wickets in 11 matches and has conceded only 6.61 runs per over this season.

Virender Sehwag lauds Jofra Archer’s bowling ability

Virender Sehwag was, not surprisingly, in his awe with his bowling on Thursday and lauded Jofra Archer’s ability to bowl great line and length at pace. The former Indian cricketer also analysed that the fast bowler forces best of the batsmen to make mistakes and hilariously said that he is happy to be sitting and talking about him instead of facing him in the middle.

“It’s not just because of the pace that Jofra Archer has been so successful and getting wickets. Even Kartik Tyagi is bowling in 140s. But it’s the ability to bowl great line and lengths that makes Archer such a good bowler. He forces batsmen into making mistakes all the time. If there is even a slight gap between the bat and ball, he castles the stumps, if the batter is late to play the ball, then he nicks him off.

“So I am quite sure he will be the most valuable player given how he has bowled thus far. I am happy to be retired and talking than facing Jofra Archer in the middle,” Sehwag said while speaking to Cricbuzz. The Royals will hope for Archer to continue bowling well for the rest of the three matches as all the matches are must-win for them now and a few results should also go RR’s way to make it to the playoffs.
