Indian Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha is celebrating his 32nd birthday today. The Bengal boy was always considered a handy glove man for his keeping abilities but over the last one year or so having played all the matches with the Test team after former skipper and wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni’s retirement he has also honed his batting skills and is a much reliable batsman lower down the order.
Saha who has played 18 Tests has 684 runs to his name which includes four half centuries and one hundred that he scored on the recent tour of West Indies, which was also the first overseas Test century by an Indian wicketkeeper. Under the new regime of captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble, they have emphasized the importance of the contribution of the lower order with the bat and that has made Saha’s role even more crucial given that he has the responsibility of batting with the tail and scoring valuable runs for the team.
A list of current and former cricketers posted tweets to wish Saha a great year ahead along with the coach Kumble who has also been full of praises for the athletic wicketkeeper. Harbhajan Singh also posted a message in which he called Saha the best wicketkeeper in the world. Bhajji’s tweet read – ‘Happy birthday @Wriddhipops Best wicket keeper in the world.. have a good one.. god bless’
For some it can appear a normal tweet and a complement while there is another perception that looks at it as a sly dig at MS Dhoni who is still playing limited-overs cricket and though he isn’t the most technically sound keepers Indian or world cricket has seen but he scaled new heights of success behind the stumps as well.
