Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh, annoyed by the rumours of him joining politics ahead of Assembly elections in the state of Punjab, has come out clear about his future and declared that he has no plans of joining politics. The off-spinner from Jalandhar chose to quash all rumours through his micro-blogging site Twitter quash all misconceptions of him contesting polls.

“I have no intentions of joining politics anytime soon. Please stop spreading rumours,” tweeted the Turbanator.

It was earlier reported that Harbhajan is likely to contest from Jalandhar on Congress party’s ticket in the Assembly elections in Punjab. The 36-year-old has been out of the Indian squad for quite some time now and last played India colors during the World T20 2016 in March. The chances of him returning look bleak at the moment in the presence of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. He also did not feature in the Ranji Trophy for his state side Punjab.

As per reports the turbanator is likely to contest from Jalandhar in the Assembly elections in Punjab, a report by ‘India Today’ channel has said. Rumours of his joining the party comes days after Navjot Singh had met party vice president Rahul Gandhi fuelling similar rumours. Sidhu had met the Congress vice president last Tuesday, raising speculations of him getting an important role in upcoming Assembly elections.

Sidhu’s wife has already joined the Congress after resigning from the Bhartiya Janata Party. BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) are the ruling parties in the state of Punjab.
