Harbhajan Singh was around his best when the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off in 2008, ten years down the line he’s 37 and still a threat for a lot of batsmen. He was with the Mumbai Indians from his maiden game until IPL 2017 and in the 2018 auction, they let him go. MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings making a comeback into the competition got hold of the veteran as they were looking for an experienced off-spinner.

He played 13 matches in the season picked only 7 wickets but more importantly, he made contributions when the team needed and that helped them lift the cup.  CSK having served a two-year ban made a grand return and went on to beat every other team and stand on the podium at the end. Thus this was the fourth time Bhajji got his hands on the glorious IPL trophy.

He had won it thrice before with Mumbai, the first in 2013, Rohit Sharma had just taken over as captain and the offie was his main weapon. Harbhajan played all the 19 matches for the team that season and had massive success ending up with 24 wickets. In 2015 when MI won their second title, he was once again in business and returned with 18 wickets in 15 matches.

Though the Turbanator wasn’t at his best in the 2017 edition managing to pick only 8 wickets in 11 matches Mumbai still won the title and he was a member of the side that became the first to win three trophies.

This time around, CSK needed Bhajji’s experience as they lost Ravichandran Ashwin in the auction. Dhoni used Harbhajan depending on the situation of the game and the batsmen at the crease, he had so many bowling options that at times didn’t even bowl him at all. Things panned out just fine for CSK and they won the title for the third time which is a huge achievement as the team had to face a lot of criticism at the start of the season for signing up a lot of players beyond the age of 35.

Bhajji expressed gratitude for what he has been able to achieve and posted an image with all the four trophies.
