Harbhajan Singh lauds Polish Olympian's humanitarian gesture
Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh was impressed with Poland’s Olympic medalist Piotr Malachowski’s humanitarian gesture. Yesterday it was reported by several news agencies that Piotr had sold his Olympic medal to fund an ailing child’s cancer treatment.
Applauding his kind heart Harbhajan tweeted – ‘Humanity with this lil boy s blessing you gonna win many more medals..but this is ur best medal #savinglife’
Piotr Malachowski won the silver medal in the discus throw event at the Rio Olympics. He auctioned his medal to take care of the medical expenses for the treatment of a three-year-old boy who is suffering from eye cancer.
He had received a letter from the boy named Olek’s mother and had the instant urge to help them. The boy has been fighting eye cancer for two years and their only hope was for him to undergo treatment in New York.

Malachowski on his Facebook page wrote, “I fought for gold in Rio. Today I’m calling on everyone to fight for something even more precious,”
“If you help me, my silver medal may turn out to be more precious than gold for Olek,” he asked his supporters to help him raise sufficient amount for the boy’s treatment. After the successful auction, he confirmed it with another post which read “Success,”
An Olympic medal is the result of an athlete’s lifetime of hard work and for him to give it away is a huge thing in itself. But Malachowski definitely proved that it is humanity that stands tall ahead of everything else. The boy wasn’t related to him nor did he know a lot about him but a genuine request from a mother was answered and even if that was at the cost of the silver medal he has definitely earned a lot more glory for himself.
