Harbhajan Singh posts a cheeky message for S Sreesanth on Onam
The two cricketers are remembered more for the slap-gate incident.
Indian cricketers, past and present, took to their social media accounts to wish the fans and others on the occasion of Onam. Festival of Kerala, Onam marks the commemoration of home-coming of the King Mahabali. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar led the wishes as he shared a photo with a portrait of him sketched by a differently-abled artist in Kerala.
The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Karun Nair, Sanju Samson, Ajinkya Rahane and other cricket stars also wished their followers. But one can say that the fans found the message from Harbhajan Singh most amusing. And the reason for the same is very clear as the star spinner put up a special message for his ‘friend’ S Sreesanth.
The two cricketers are remembered more for the slap-gate incident rather than being former teammates in the national team. The incident had taken place way back in 2008 during the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. After a game between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab, Harbhajan had infamously slapped Sreesanth, leaving the latter in tears.
The off-spinner had later gone to Kings XI Punjab dressing room to apologise for the incident. He has also apologised for the incident on a number of occasions on public platforms. But the fans still saw the funny side of the tweet as Harbhajan wished Sreesanth on Onam, writing, “Happy Onam to all Malayali friends .. specially to my friend @sreesanth36.. have a good one ”
Meanwhile, Sreesanth’s life-ban was recently cut to seven years. He was banned for life by the BCCI for his alleged role in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. The fast-bowler’s ban will come to an end in September next year. Sreesanth has already started harbouring hopes of playing for India again.
Messages galore from cricketers:
As usual, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar stole the show with his beautiful tweet on yet another special occasion. “Happy Onam to everyone. May this festive season bring joy & prosperity to all! During my recent visit, I had a special interaction with Pranav, an artist who sketches with his legs & I am just amazed by his drive & motivation. This, to me, truly symbolizes the Spirit of Kerala!,” wrote Tendulkar who co-owned Kerala-based football team Kerala Blasters.
