With 103 Test matches and 236 ODIs to his name, Harbhajan Singh has been one of Indian cricket’s most outstanding servants. He picked up over 700 International wickets during his prime but in the last 4-5 years, he has remained a peripheral member of the team due to inconsistency.
Harbhajan was a crucial member of the 2011 World Cup winning squad and he often reiterated that it was the finest moment of his career. After the T20 game against UAE in the Asia Cup in 2016, he hasn’t donned the Indian jersey and the 38-year-old is highly unlikely to feature again. Yet, he opined he always gave his best no matter which team he played and would want to push for a place in the World Cup squad.
“I have always given my best to the team I play for, be it national, domestic or IPL. And, I’ll continue to do so during any upcoming matches too, irrespective of the circumstance. But yes, who wouldn’t want to lift the World Cup twice,” Raina told Times Now.
Indian squad for World Cup more or less locked
It seems pretty clear as to the 15 members who will travel to England, with only one or two spots having a scope for competition. The 2-time ICC trophy winner said that IPL performance will not be helping any young player of Suresh Raina in specific to earn a spot in the squad, unless there are any injuries.
“I don’t think there will be changes in the Indian team for the World Cup even if someone plays amazingly well in the IPL, be it Suresh Raina or any youngster. I don’t think the 15-man squad will change, unless there are injuries or so. BCCI is also looking at the squad in the manner of who to rest and how during the IPL, so the squad is more or less locked,” Harbhajan Singh said.
