Harbhajan Singh tests positive for COVID-19, undergoes isolation at home
Harbhajan was due to participate in the ongoing Legends League Cricket.
Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has undergone isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 virus. The veteran took to Twitter on Friday (January 21) and informed about the same. Although the 41-year-old has contracted the virus, the symptoms are mild. He also urged everyone who came in his contact recently to get themselves tested as soon as possible.
It must be noted that Harbhajan was due to participate in the ongoing Legends League Cricket. Hence, fans were surprised not seeing him in India Maharajas’ playing XI for the opening clash against Asia Lions. With the tournament, which is taking place in Oman, concluding on January 29, the off-spinner isn’t likely to ply his trade. As Harbhajan said he’s isolating himself at home, it seems like he hasn’t taken the flight to Oman.
I have quarantined myself at home: Harbhajan Singh
“I’ve tested positive for COVID with mild symptoms. I have quarantined myself at home and taking all the necessary precautions. I would request those who came in contact with me to get themselves tested at the earliest. Please be safe and take care,” tweeted Harbhajan.
Meanwhile, Harbhajan brought curtains to his illustrious professional career last year. With 711 international wickets in the kitty, the offie finishes as India’s second-highest wicket-taker, only behind Anil Kumble.
Notably, the star cricketer played his Test match against Sri Lanka in 2015. On the other hand, his final ODI was against South Africa in the same year. His last international outing was a T20I against UAE in the 2016 Asia Cup. He didn’t get pick in the team after the 2016 T20 World Cup and five years later, the spinner bid adieu to professional cricket.
It must be noted that the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup winner is also the first Indian to take a Test hat-trick. Owing to the same, fans were disappointed not seeing him in India Maharajas’ playing XI. However, his absence didn’t hurt the Indian team much as the Mohammad Kaif-led side walked away with a six-wicket triumph in the season opener. Yusuf Pathan was named the Player of the Match for his 40-ball 80.
