Former Indian legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh recently stated that he is not definitive about the fact whether India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been rested or dropped in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have not been included in the current Indian squad as they have given way to Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel in the ODI and T20 squad.

Much has been talked about the adept of India’s spin twin in limited over format post-India’s campaign in the Champions Trophy. Ravi Ashwin has lacked penetration in the recent series against England in January as well. Virat Kohli in the post match presentation ceremony yesterday hinted that India would be going in with few unexpected changes looking at the upcoming World Cup of 2019 in England.

“I am not sure if R Ashwin has been rested or dropped. We have seen reports that Ashwin has been rested but at the same time in his rest period, he is going to England to play county cricket. So I don’t know what kind of rest it is going to be. I am not sure whether he has been rested or dropped,” claimed Harbhajan Singh according to his interview with India Today.

Harbhajan Singh backs Kuldeep Yadav

“I know where Harbhajan Singh is coming from because whether it is him or me we have seen such situations very closely in teams and understand the team dynamics. Ashwin’s performance in Sri Lanka has been in the Test matches. In sub-continent conditions, in Test matches, there are no doubts about R Ashwin’s place,” further continued the off spinner. He then backed Kuldeep Yadav to play the role of a frontline spinner in the upcoming matches.

“But I have a feeling that Kuldeep Yadav is slowly going to get into the ODI side as a frontline spinner, especially on pitches which do not respond to the spinners when they go to South Africa, England, and Australia and considering they are going to play the World Cup in England,” concluded the 37 year old.
