Harbhajan Singh wishes Hardik Pandya 'many more' five-wicket-hauls in the future
The performance definitely will boost his confidence to face further challenges.
Prior to the start of the third Test between England and India at Edgbaston in Nottingham, Hardik Pandya was a recipient of severe criticism. He wasn’t able to deliver, either with the bat or with the ball. However, he answered his critics appropriately with his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He eventually finished with jaw-dropping figures of 6-1-28-5.
After India put on 329 runs, England got off to a decent start as Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings put on 56 for the first wicket. The post-lunch session belonged to India as all ten English wickets fell in the session. Pandya was introduced in the 25th over and the 24-year-old immediately made an impact with the wicket of Joe Root, the English skipper, in his very first delivery.
Harbhajan awestruck by Pandya’s brilliance
The leather bounced steeply and took the outside edge of Root to trace into KL Rahul’s hands in the slip cordon. Thereafter, he pinned Jonny Bairstow in his fourth over and reduced the Three Lions to 110/6. In the same over, he got rid of Chris Woakes, who scored his maiden century in the last match. Rishabh Pant made no mistake while grasping the leather behind the wickets.
Adil Rashid fell prey to his venom as Pandya picked up his fourth wicket in his fifth over. In the penultimate ball of the very over, he trapped Stuart Broad in front to help India pick up their ninth wicket. In his short Test career, the all-rounder hasn’t had much to do with the cherry and the performance definitely will boost his confidence to face further challenges.
Following his jaw-dropping display of bowling, he was showered with accolades from the cricketing fraternity. Harbhajan Singh, who is currently a commentator for BBC, heaped praises on him. He wrote, “Great spell @hardikpandya7 first 5 wicket haul in test cricket.. wish you many more.. Go india”.
