Harbhajan Singh wishes Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh for turning parents to a baby girl
Rohit flew to Mumbai to attend his wife.
Yet another ace India cricketer Rohit Sharma turned father of a baby daughter on Sunday, hours after India thumped Australia by 137 runs in the third Test of the ongoing four-match series in Melbourne. For the 31-year-old batsman who returned to India’s Test team after a year, these are particularly happy times. For besides the team’s memorable win and him becoming a proud dad, Rohit also hit a half-century in the just-concluded Test match, proving that he is yet capable of making a mark in the longest format.
The dashing batsman will, however, miss the fourth and final Test of the series in Sydney starting January 3 since he will be by the side of his wife Ritika Sajdeh and daughter and will join the squad for the ODIs on January 8. India are now leading the series 2-1 and are on the verge of creating history given they do not lose the game in Sydney. The Asian powerhouse has never won a Test series Down Under and though they have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by winning in Melbourne, they would like to win the series to rewrite history.
Coming back to Rohit, the cricketer was congratulated on turning a father and one among those who wished him was Harbhajan Singh, the former’s ex-teammate in Team India and Mumbai Indians. Harbhajan, fondly called ‘Turbanator’, is a father of a girl himself and in a tweet, he wished both Rohit and his wife and said: “life starts now”.
Here is Harbhajan’s tweet
Rohit had an ordinary outing in the first Test in Adelaide on his return to Test cricket and missed the second Test in Perth which India lost. However, the man hit an unbeaten 63 in the first innings in Melbourne which was a crucial contribution to the visitors’ big first innings total. “It would’ve been great to have him (Rohit) around. Tactically, he brings so much to the side and then his batting provides the right kind of balance to the side. But what awaits him is bigger and more important,” Times of India (TOI) quoted a source as saying.
When Dhoni turned dad while on Australia tour
It may be mentioned here that former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also turned father when he was in Australia for the 2015 ICC World Cup. His daughter Ziva was born just days ahead of India’s campaign and Dhoni waited for almost two months till India’s run concluded in the semi-final to see his newborn for he thought taking a break at a crucial time could affect the team’s focus.
