After a sizzling performance at Trent Bridge, Hardik Pandya failed to back it up in Southampton. He scored only four runs across both the innings and picked only a solitary wicket. Most importantly, he has been batting at number 6 for India and has nothing to show but a single half-century in the series. Even in the chase the other day, Pandya was expected to support Ajinkya Rahane. Instead, he bagged a seven-ball duck and then the team collapsed to hand England the match and the series.
He was one of the heroes for the visitors in the third Test and had scalped his maiden five-wicket haul in the longest format. Even with the bat, he brought his aggression to the fore and smashed his first half-century in the country. But a failure in the next game has made his performance look fluke. He was definitely expected to do more after the last match and he couldn’t even come close to it.
4 runs and a wicket- Pandya’s performance
On the other hand, England have got all the match-winners in the all-rounder department. Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali, all of them have major roles in the three wins for their team so far and their contributions have hurt India throughout the series. But Hardik Pandya, apart from the single game, has failed to stand tall which has hurt Virat Kohli’s men significantly.
The fans were not at all impressed with India’s highly rated all-rounder and questioned his place in the team. He’s being backed by the captain and the team management constantly and while the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Rahane have been dropped from the team, Pandya has played in all the seven overseas Tests so far.
Many are pointing out now that India should’ve played an extra batsman instead of him. Even Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the youngster after the loss in the post-match show on Sunday and went on to say that he doesn’t qualify as the Test all-rounder. “You want to call Hardik Pandya an all-rounder? Whoever wants to call Pandya an all-rounder, may call! But I don’t think so,” he said.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
If Hardik Pandya is an all-rounder then I am a Superman🤗..He is simply a lady gaga of this team nothing else🤓

We used to troll Stuart binny but even Hardik pandya is Stuart binny 2.0 version 😂😂 #EngvInd #Pandya

I am not saying Hardik Pandya is a horrible player, but even Rakhi Savant plays a better 'jejus ki beti' than what Hardik plays as an 'allrounder'. #IndiaVsEngland

I think now-a-days team selection base on the tattoos nd stylish look that's why kl Rahul nd Hardik Pandya still in the team! No other reason 🤣🤣🤣#ENGvIND #Biasedmgt

@BCCI Hardik Pandya failure & failure in his batting performance but still he gets a fixed position in every format. In the other hand Ravindra Jadeja will seat in bench but he not getting a recall. because our captain & Coach not like him. we don't want them.

@vikrantgupta73 And Hardik pandya I don't think he is qualified enough to be at no 6 for India. It's demeaning for test cricket if players like him given free matches.I think this series has shown India can manage with 4 bowlers oversees. Hope they take lessons to Australia serie

Grabbing opportunities with both hands is one thing, somersaulting past the opportunity is a whole different ball game.#HardikPandya

Hardik Pandya is the Rahul Gandhi of Indian cricket. Each time you expect him to come of age, he disappoints you in ways unimaginable.
Some guys just don't value the opportunities given to them!— Akshay Nigadi (@AkshayNigadi) September 3, 2018
@vikrantgupta73 @Ateet_Sharma @rawatrahul9 @rawatrahul9 what is hardik pandya?one who can neither bowl nor bat well.

@BCCI @imVkohli @RaviShastriOfc Why you consider #IPL as criteria for test selection . Look at miserable failure you got in name of #HardikPandya. And on top of that he is blaming selectors for same . What kind of shameless culture is being promoted ?

Hardik pandya should be dropped from the Indian team's squad Immediately..

Hardik Pandya is far from finished product as far as all-round capabilities are concerned. just show him door…or show @RaviShastriOfc

The difference between the both the sides has been there all-rounders.
This series has been of the all-rounders
1st Test Match-Sam Curran
2nd Test-Chris Woakes
3rd Test-Hardik Pandya
4th Test-Moeen AliI feel Jadeja Should play ahead of Pandya.

@BCCI #ENGvIND 4th test is lost because of the lack of determination. the great chances are missed. we have to find some better all rounder. i feel @SirJadejaaaa would have been best instead of hardik pandya

True result of what ll happen if you run behind money is @hardikpandya7 & @klrahul11 #BCCI @bcci #EngvInd #klrahul #HardikPandya

@bhogleharsha @imVkohli wy sir you don't understand there is no ability in hardik pandya he is not a allrounder
— Mohammad Ali Khan🇮🇳 (@imaa_ali) September 3, 2018
India lost series to England. Hardik Pandya was a weak link in our team. He is not a proper batsman nor a proper bowler, still called all rounder. So India played with practically 10 players. Our openers failed, could not register a single half century in series. We missed Jadeja

Why bunch of Jokers are selected as Selectors of Indian Cricket Team for Tour in England. Hardik Pandya is the Finest case & other may follow.
— Nilesh Ashar (@nile0079) September 3, 2018
Does one fifer and a fifty make a mark for hardik pandya to play all 5 tests? Dont see him as genuine all rounder. Jadeja is much better. #EngvsIndia @BCCI
