Hardik Pandya's father was surprised after his son scored a century
Hardik was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance in the 3rd Test
The new big-hitting sensation of the Indian team Hardik Pandya stole the show with some incredible hitting on the Day 2 of the final Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. He scored a maiden ton in a mere 86 balls, only in his 3rd game in the longest format of the game. Hardik Pandya’s father Himanshu got absolutely surprised after watching his son score a tremendous maiden century, that to so early in his Test career.
The team was not in a good position when Hardik came into bat at No. 8, as India had lost 6 top order wickets for the score of 322 runs. It was a completely different situation for Pandya, as previously in both the Tests, he came to the crease when the team was in a commanding position.
However, he maintained a solid-composure and played to his ability, early on in his innings. And then, shifted his gears after getting to his second half-century, as he started attacking the Lankan bowlers, especially the spinners. He went on to register his maiden first class ton off just 86 balls, which is also the fastest century by a No. 8 batsman.
I didn’t expect a century
Hardik Pandya was dismissed after a great knock of 108 runs, but the all-rounder ensured that the team was in a good position in the Test match. India managed to score a mammoth score of 487 runs in the first innings which proved to be too good for the opposition that got out twice and didn’t even get close to it.
However, Hardik’s father Himanshu didn’t expect a ton very early in his Test career. “I didn’t expect this century so early in his career, but I am confident about his good show as he is improving day by day,” Pandya Sr said, as quoted by the Mid-day.
“I was enjoying the match with the family members on TV, but we did not expect him to score such a T20-like knock to reach his century. The way he played after his 50, was superb. We enjoyed his century,” added the proud father.
Champions Trophy Final
The 23-year old right-hander has already shown his capabilities in the shorter formats for the Men in Blue. He has played 17 ODIs and 19 T20s, since making his debut in 2016 against Australia. He is considered to be an important asset for the Indian team, as termed by the skipper Virat Kohli.
Hardik’s knock against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final is still not forgotten, as the young lad played some delightful shots and one of the most entertaining innings of the current era.
“If Hardik would only have played like he did today against Pakistan in that Champions Trophy final, we would have easily beaten them and won that tournament,” Hardik’s father concluded.
