Hardik Pandya’s quirky birthday wish for Zaheer Khan sees netizens slamming him
Zaheer and Hardik were involved in friendly banter on Twitter.
Ace India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has a knack of embracing controversies in between grand cricketing shows. The 25-year-old recently greeted former India bowler Zaheer Khan in a tweet that did not go down well with the netizens as they found it in an inferior taste. The former left-arm seamer turned 41 on Monday.
The Baroda all-rounder, who will soon turn 26, came up with a tweet showing himself whacking a delivery from Zaheer out of the park in a domestic game. He captioned it with a wish that “Zak”, by which Zaheer is fondly known as, also had a smashing birthday just like his smashing shot. Hardik soon faced the music from the netizens who felt he was being arrogant and less respectful towards one of India’s best-known pacers.
However, Zaheer Khan also was quick in responding and reminded Hardik of the next delivery which he bowled at him. While it remains unknown what happened off that ball, but surely the message must have the all-rounder.
Hardik to be out of action for some months
Hardik Pandya, who had a decent World Cup and hasn’t played much of international cricket since then, is currently on a break because of a lower-back injury for which he underwent a surgery in London. He also confirmed to the fans in a social media post last Saturday letting them know about the successful surgery.
Hardik is expected to be out of action for five months. He missed international cricket for quite a few months in the last year because of injuries. He also courted controversy in January by making remarks on a television show that did not suit the fans’ taste.
He even served a temporary suspension along with KL Rahul on that occasion before having a successful Indian Premier League. He played the T20I series against South Africa but has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series versus the Proteas. He will miss the T20Is against Bangladesh as well.
Zaheer, on the other hand, was one of the key members of India’s bowling line-up and played international cricket for 14 years. In 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is, the left-arm seamer picked 610 wickets and was a member of India’s World Cup-winning team in 2011.
