The Pakistan cricket team suffered a huge setback when Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq bid adieu to international cricket. The two stalwarts played a key role in Pakistan’s success over the years. Younis and Misbah were the two most experienced players of the team and their absence had left a huge void in the team’s middle order. Since then, Pakistan has been looking for a long-term solution for their middle order conundrum.

England is very strong in their own backyard. The bowlers know how to use the Duke ball effectively and they can be very lethal in swinging conditions. The visiting batsmen need to have a solid technique to counter the new ball English bowlers as they can get away with the game quite quickly.

Pakistan is visiting England with a relatively inexperienced side and the margin for error is very less. Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has pinned his hopes on young middle-order batsman Haris Sohail for performing well in the ongoing Test series against England.

Tough to score in English conditions

Misbah felt that Sohail’s technique will enable him to play long innings in England. “I am looking to Haris especially as I believe he has the technique to do well in England and the way he plays he has all the skills to become a very good Test player. He has a very good technique against pace bowling and he leaves the ball well, which is vital in England,” Misbah was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

Pakistan started the first test at Lords in great fashion as they were dominant on Day 1. The team looked solid in all facets of the game and won all the three sessions in the day. The batsmen soaked the pressure in the final session to close the day on 50/1 after bowling England out for 184. However, it is still early in the game and the tide can turn quickly if Pakistan takes the following sessions lightly.

It is never easy to score runs in England and Misbah added that it is a great opportunity for the Pakistani batsmen to show that they are world-class players. If a player can score runs in England, it is deemed that he can handle the toughest of situations in the world of test cricket.
