Harmanpreet Kaur, Jasprit Bumrah named in Forbes India 30 Under 30 list

It was a great moment for the Indian athletes, as four sports stars made it to the Forbes India 30 Under 30 list which was released on Monday, February 5. The list features the likes of Savita Punia, Heena Sidhu including cricketers Jasprit Bumrah and Harmanpreet Kaur.

Prepared by Forbes, the list is based on three broad criteria; the extent of the impact of their achievements, and their ability to disrupt the status quo; scalability of the business or line of work and; their potential to stay a long-term player. Another chief criteria for making it to the list is not belonging to the category of well-established names, next-generation entrepreneurs and having access to an influential lineage.

Harmanpreet Kaur

Speaking about Harmanpreet Kaur, she was one of the key cogs in India’s dominating run to the Women’s World Cup final last year. The Indian eves rode on Kaur’s blistering knock of 171 in the World Cup semifinal against Australia to set up a final clash against hosts England. However, they lost in the summit clash to the Three Lions but their journey in the quadrennial event has truly been remarkable.

The 28-year-old from Punjab’s Moga evoked memories of Kapil Dev’s historic 175 not out against Zimbabwe during the 1983 World Cup. Following her successful endeavor, Harmanpreet was amongst the 17 sportspersons nominated for the Arjuna Awards. She is also the first Indian female cricketer to sign up for the Big Bash League, with Sydney Thunder.

Jasprit Bumrah

On the other hand, Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who earned his Test debut against South Africa this January, enjoyed a spectacular 2017 to get included in the list of Forbes India 30 Under 30. Claiming 39 wickets in 23 ODIs last year, the 24-year old was named in the ICC’s ODI Team of The Year. He has specifically proved effective in the limited overs with a rich repertoire of tricks up his sleeve.

Every sportsperson goes through insurmountable obstacles to reach the top and in all probability, they do deserve recognition. The Forbes list of super achievers is thus a brilliant initiative which recognizes such sports stars and their hardships and gives them the motivation to move ahead and prosper.
