Indian women’s team stars Harmanpreet Kaur and Punam Raut have welcomed BCCI’s plans of developing women’s cricket in the country. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to launch an Indian Women’s ‘A’ team and took a decision on increasing the number of domestic games for the women in a recently held meeting. The progressive idea has been applauded by Harmanpreet and Punam, two promising talents of Indian cricket.

Speaking about the same Harmanpreet Kaur, who smashed a trailblazing century against the Aussies in the Women’s World Cup earlier this year, said that it will be an excellent opportunity for the women to get more game time. Harmanpreet spoke to the reporters after launching her colleague Punam Raut‘s Sports Academy in suburban Kandivili, for women.

What Harmanpreet and Punam said:

“Earlier there were not many domestic matches for women, but this year the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is working on it and we will get good quality and more number of matches,” Harmanpreet said.

Punam Raut stated that girls should brave up and utilize the platform about to be provided by the BCCI for the betterment of women’s cricket in India. “Of course, the initiative by BCCI with regards to India A tour for women is good. More and more girls should come up. We get less number of series to play, but there is lot of talent coming up and it will be an opportunity to express themselves when they play for India A. It is a good initiative,” she said.

Adding to it, Harmanpreet said,  “Of course, after the World Cup there are a lot of meetings in the BCCI on women’s cricket and they are working on us. India A concept will help us. As Punam said earlier there were less number of matches. Those who are not in the team but among the probables will get more experience when they play international cricket,”.

Punam Raut went on to express her wish to be a part of a World Cup-winning team. “After this we will achieve our dream of winning the World Cup. We have lots of girls playing good cricket and have the talent. We have lots of bench strength,” she concluded.
