Harmanpreet Kaur, who played an inning of a lifetime in the semi-finals of the just concluded ICC Women’s World Cup will be greeted with her favourite food on her return. The food will be cooked by none other than her mother who is anxiously waiting for her daughter to return home to their native town in Moga, Punjab.
What her mother said:
According to her mother, Harmanpreet prefers home-made food over the tasty delicacies of a restaurant. She also revealed that the destructive batsman is a fan of “bhindi ki sabzi” and she will be welcomed with that. Dishes that are made from boiled potato are also the favourites of the 28-year-old Harmanpreet Kaur.
“My daughter likes homemade food. She has a great liking for bhindi ki sabzi (ladies’ finger) and also dishes made from boiled potato,” said her mother.
Her family also went to a Gurdwara in Moga, Punjab before their final clash against England at Lords. They wished for the team’s as well as Harmanpreet’s success in the match and were confident of India lifting the trophy.
“We wish all the very best to the team. We went to Gurdwara early morning today and prayed for the team’s success. We are quite hopeful that the team will return with the Cup,” said Harmandar Singh Bhullar, the father of Harmanpreet Kaur.
Unfortunately, India could not cross the final hurdle as they lost to hosts England in the grand finale. Harmanpreet performed fairly in the match as she scored a half century but could not stay until the end to carry her team home.
However, Harmanpreet’s 171 run knock in the semis against Australia remains the best of the tournament. She manhandled the Aussie bowling attack with ease as India posted a target of 281 runs in a 42 over match. Favourites Australia failed to reach the target and India made it through to the finals of the Women’s World Cup for the second time in history.
