It has been over a week now, but India and the cricketing universe cannot stop lavishing praises on the Indian team and the dashing batter Harmanpreet Kaur. Her unbeaten 171 against Australia in the semi-final of the Women’s World Cup was one of the best knocks played by an Indian cricketer, male or female, in the global event. She scored those runs despite cramps. Her innings was compared to some sensational knocks from the legends of the game.
On the eve of the World Cup final, the batter had sustained a shoulder injury during the net session. Although she played the final, it has now been learnt that her shoulder injury has seen no improvement in the last few days, which is why she has been ruled out of the upcoming season of the Super League T20 tournament to be held in the United Kingdom. Harmanpreet is the only Indian who plays the tournament, and one of the two from the country, along with Smriti Mandhana, to play in Australia’s Big Bash League.
The India all-rounder has been advised rest for one month after an MRI scan on her right shoulder indicated a tear. “I was in bad shape in the later stages of the World Cup but the physios got me going. It would have been great to be a part of Kia League. I had a successful stint with Sydney Thunder in Women’s Big Bash League [WBBL] which lifted my game and confidence. I will convey my unavailability to the franchise,” she was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Recent form
“I was really looking forward to playing alongside England’s World Cup winning cricketers – Natalie Sciver, Tammy Beaumont, Laura Marsh and Alex Hartley,” she added. Harmanpreet scored 359 runs in the nine World Cup matches and was in sensational form throughout. Missing a tournament after being in such a great form will be disappointing for the Punjab girl.
