Whilst there is elation at one side, there’s disappointment on the other as to what kind of an impact will Goods and Services Tax (GST) have on the life of a commoner in India. Amidst this confusion, industrialist Sanjeev Goenka’s brother Harsh Goenka had a unique take on the GST.
Unlike many of his tweets, which were targeted to troll former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, this tweet was received well by the audience. Goenka tweeted a picture late in the night on 30 June, precisely 45 minutes before the launch of GST system of taxation. He indirectly heaped praises on stalwarts of Indian cricket Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag.
His tweet read “In cricket, we already had GST”. Digging a little deeper, the “GST” in his tweet meant “Ganguly, Sehwag and Tendulkar” and the picture he posted along with his tweet included Ganguly, Sehwag and Tendulkar.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) has taken the entire nation by a storm. Brought into existence on 1 July, this economic reform from the Indian government headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party is being claimed as the biggest economic change made in India post the Trade Liberalisation move brought to effect in 1991.
Not the most loved person on Twitter
Before the 10th edition of the IPL commenced, no one ever knew who Harsh Goenka was. Few intelligent people knew him as an industrialist and nothing more than that. But his series of tweets targeting MS Dhoni’s credentials and ability sparked a row and spread hatred against him on social media.
Within a span of a few days, he was the most trolled individual on social media for obvious reasons and that didn’t stop him. He did continue for some more time and though it’s been a long time since he’s tweeted anything about the former Indian captain, he’s always a face of memes on Facebook and Instagram.
But this time around, he proudly tweeted saying we always had GST in cricket and Twitterati wasted no time in appreciating his wit. Ganguly, Sehwag and Tendulkar held the Indian flag at the highest position for over a decade and Mr Goenka’s tweet is a testimonial to the amount of respect they have in the country.
