Mahendra Singh Dhoni is considered as the best Indian captain ever by many. The term ‘best’ may vary from person to person, but there is no arguing over the fact that he is one of the most successful Indian captains of all time. Under his leadership, India has won the three major ICC tournaments, namely- World Cup, Champions Trophy and the World T20 along with a lot of other bilateral and multi-team tournaments.
Not only for the Indian national team, but he is an extremely successful captain in the IPL as well. He has won two IPLs with the temporarily banned franchise Chennai Super Kings. Last year his team Rising Pune Supergiant finished penultimate on the points table. Owing to the poor form of the team, Dhoni was released from this captaincy duties. The Supergiant team management said that they wanted a younger captain to lead the side.
Australian skipper Steve Smith was made the captain. Things were all right until this point, but Pune’s co-owner Harsh Goenka created a turmoil over the internet. He bashed the former Indian skipper on the micro-blogging site Twitter. He also termed the current skipper of his team Steve Smith as the ‘King of the Jungle’.
But after Pune’s narrow defeat at the hands of their Maharashtrian counterpart Mumbai Indians in the final, Twitterati found a chance to troll back Goenka. Pune could not chase the target as low as 130, and MS Dhoni fans had a laugh at Goenka on Twitter.
Goenka’s comments
We cannot blame the Dhoni loyalists because they had to bear the comments like “Smith overshadows Dhoni totally” time and again. He once mocked at the fact that Manoj Tiwary and Dan Christian have a better strike rate than MS Dhoni. But he took a U-turn after Dhoni scored a half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad by saying that Dhoni is the best finisher. But it was of no use, as the Dhoni fans on Twitter rubbed salt on Goenka’s wounds.
Here are some of the tweets
