Harsha Bhogle feels Dinesh Karthik should have avoided the second run
Team India got really close but lost the game by 4 runs.
In what was a thrilling start to India’s tour of Australia, the Men in Yellow managed to achieve a scintillating four-run win. The match went down till the last over with 13 runs required to win and both the teams were capable of turning it in their favour. However, it was Marcus Stoinis who managed to defend and also took the wickets of both Dinesh Karthik and Krunal Pandya.
The wicketkeeper-batsman was looking set to take India over the line with 30 (13). They needed 13 off 6 balls when Krunal Pandya took a double and Karthik was denied the strike until the third ball. Pandya, on the other hand, played a dot ball and then got out, thus making the equation even tougher for the visitors. Karthik had no choice other than going for the big one but he found Jason Behrendorff at long off.
After the game, cricket expert Harsha Bhogle took to Twitter to express his opinions on the game. He felt that in the hindsight, Karthik may have second thoughts about his decision to go for the second run on the first ball. However, at the same time, Bhogle didn’t forget to acknowledge the quickfire knock that came in a dire situation for India.
Here is Harsha Bhogle’s tweet:
“Guess Karthik will wonder if he should have run the second from the 1st ball of the over. But top innings in the situation.”
DK has time and again given India hopes batting in the lower order. This game again reminisced the Nidahas Trophy final where Karthik won the game with a last ball six. He scored a fantastic 29 runs from just 8 balls to finish it off in style for the Men in Blue. However, this time around, he failed to take the team through.
MS Dhoni was dropped from the Australian squad and Rishabh Pant was given a go ahead. Karthik was in as a pure batsman in the team and coming in to bat at No.6 today proved the selectors’ decision right.
