The World Cup is scheduled to be played from May 30 and India are one of the strong contenders to get their hands on the coveted trophy. The Men in Blue are expected to be a happier bunch as they recently won the ODI series’ against Australia and New Zealand. Even as they brushed aside the Aussies 2-1, they rolled over the Black Caps 4-1 in the five-match series.
After victories in Napier and Mount Maunganui, India slumped to a defeat by eight wickets at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. Nevertheless, India came back to win the last encounter at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington by 35 runs. With the World Cup knocking on the doors, India have got their combinations in place, apart from a few places here and there.
Low chances for KL Rahul
In the meantime, Harsha Bhogle, the renowned commentator reckons that 13 of the 15 places for the World Cup have already been decided and only two slots are left for grabs. Moreover, he feels that time has almost run out for KL Rahul, who recently has had a terrible time with the bat in hand. He even failed to perform in India ‘A’s limited-overs series against England Lions.
He didn’t get to play against the Kiwis as well. Now he is scheduled to play the unofficial Test series against England Lions. Bhogle doesn’t feel that the 26-year-old has got enough time to stake his claim into the national team for the mega event later this year.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “13 of the 15 World Cup spots are now filled. There are two batting slots left and Karthik, Pant, Vijay Shanker and an opener would be in contention. Still think the team needs another but my choice, KL Rahul, doesn’t have too many games left to fight for one of those two spots,”
