One of the greatest all-rounders of limited overs cricket, Shahid Afridi finally bid adieu to his international career after playing for over 20 years for the national team. He finally bowed to the inevitable which has been doing rounds for nearly a year. Afridi led Pakistan to the World T20 in India last year and stepped down from captaincy following Pakistan’s lacklustre performance in the tournament. Though he didn’t retire from international cricket, the all-rounder wasn’t picked for the T20 series which Pakistan played following the World T20.
Last year the PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan had said that he and Afridi had come to an agreement which stated that Afridi would step down after the World T20. “He is also a Pathan and I am also a Pathan and once the agreement is done between two Pathans it can’t be changed,” Khan was quoted as saying a year before.
Following the retirement of the swashbuckling all-rounder, popular Indian commentator and journalist Harsha Bhogle took to his twitter handle and lauded Afridi on a terrific limited overs cricketer. “So @SAfridiOfficial retires from international cricket. Exceptional limited overs cricketer who, dare I say it, might have done even more”, Bhogle tweeted.

He further took to his twitter handle and wrote that Afridi’s innings of 59 of 24 balls against Bangladesh in the 2014 Asia Cup remain one his best commentary session till date associated with Afridi. “Among the commentary sessions I enjoyed most was one where @SAfridiOfficial went berserk against Bangladesh. As destructive as anything,” he tweeted.

Making his debut for the national team way back in 1996, Afridi remains one of the greatest ever all-rounder Pakistan has seen. In 398 ODI’s, Boom Boom Afridi has scored more than 8,000 runs and has bagged 398 wickets.

He has been an asset to any limited overs squad he has played so far and he bid adieu to his cricketing career in a grand style. His innings of 54 of 28 balls for the Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing Pakistan Super League almost pulled off a remarkable chase against the Karachi Kings.
